Lemon & Kale Detox Smoothie
After two major horse races in May (the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes) along with the Memorial Day celebrations, we thought a detox option may be in order as we wrap up the month.
We all know that smoothies can pack essential nutrients and get our days off to a great start.
This I.E. Green Tea based smoothie has loads of nutrients and packs 300 mg of antioxidants!
The berries provide heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids as well as manganese for bone health; the kale adds selenium, fiber, and is loaded other vitamins (A, C, K, and B6) and other nutrients (manganese, calcium, copper, potassium, magnesium, among others); the almond milk is rich in potassium, calcium, and phosphorus as well as contributing vitamins (A, E, and D); and, of course, I.E. Green Tea is loaded with 300mg of antioxidants.
What a great way to start your day (or enjoy an afternoon).

Hydration - It Does a Body Good!
It’s pretty much “common knowledge” that staying hydrated is important to one’s overall health, especially in the south and west during the extremely hot summer months. Staying hydrated helps regulate body temperature and lubricates our joints, keeps our organs functioning normally, and helps deliver nutrients to cells. Furthermore, good hydration helps prevent infections as well as helps to improve our mood, cognition, and our quality of sleep.
The question is, “How much water should I consume to stay hydrated and what is the best way to get that amount of water into my system?”
It is generally accepted that men should consume 130 ounces of water and women should consume 90 ounces of water per day. Of course, we should consume even more water when outside in the heat for long periods and when exercising or engaging in any strenuous activity. An easy-to-remember “rule of thumb” is to drink ½ an ounce of water per pound of body weight – that’s a lot of water! However, it isn’t necessary to just drink water to get good hydration. Eating fruits and vegetables with a high-water content such as tomatoes, cucumbers, citrus fruits, strawberries, watermelon (come on, it’s got water in the name!), cantaloupe, etc. will help you stay hydrated but don’t go overboard. While fruits and vegetables are very healthy, they do contain sugar and add calories to your diet.
Even though sugary drinks and energy drinks do provide hydration, they often come with a high sugar content (empty calories) that may result in unwanted weight gain. It’s generally considered best to avoid these types of drinks or, at most, consume them in moderation.
What are other ways to stay hydrated? Glad you asked!
Try drinking I.E. Green Tea. Drinking our all-natural green tea will not only increase hydration but it can also help lower cholesterol, improve VO2 Max (the maximum oxygen intake while incrementally increasing the intensity of exercise), and antioxidant green tea provides the body with important polyphenols. I.E. Green Tea is the best antioxidant green tea on the market with at least 300mg of antioxidants per serving which, we believe, makes I.E. Green Tea the best green tea.
Our green tea is pre-brewed and comes in convenient tea packets that you can take with you virtually anywhere – just add to water. We offer pure, unsweetened green tea or, if you want a slightly sweet, fruit flavored drink, we offer peach green tea, lemon green tea, and raspberry green tea. All of our flavored green teas are sweetened with stevia that is specifically formulated for I.E. Green Tea and all are completely calorie free.
Adding I.E. Green Tea to water, though, is just the beginning. While it is true that I.E. Green Tea is great in hot water or cold water, try adding one of our slightly sweet, all-natural fruit flavored green teas (peach green tea, lemon green tea, or raspberry green tea) to sparkling water for a refreshing and healthy alternative to colas and other soda waters. Our all-natural fruit flavored tea makes for a slightly sweet, delicious flavor enhancer to your oatmeal, yogurt, and similar foods. Just stir in and enjoy.
While not conclusive, studies suggest that drinking about 30 ounces of pure green tea per day, in addition to the hydration benefits, may also reduce the risk of premature death, heart disease, stroke, type-2 diabetes, among other health benefits.
I.E. Green Tea will not only help to keep you well hydrated, I.E. Green Tea also has the added benefit of being one of the highest antioxidant green tea beverages (or any beverage for that matter) on the market – with ZERO calories, I. E. Green Tea provides a veritable trifecta of health benefits:
- • Good Hydration (helps regulate body temperature and lubricate joints)
- • High Level of Antioxidants (minimum 300 mg per serving)
- • Zero Calories (helps control unwanted weight gain)
- • Improved VO2 Max
- • Improved Heart Health
Oh, wait! That’s more than three benefits. I.E. Green Tea is a super antioxidant green tea – it must be a true Super Food!
