Matcha Vs Green Tea from IE Green Tea
Did you ever wonder what the difference is between Matcha green tea powder and green tea? This is a question that we are asked time after time.
The two teas both come from the same plant, the camellia sinensis plant which is the plant that all teas come from.
There are differences in the production and preparation of the two, and in this article, we will explain those differences and why the products generally produce the same beneficial properties.
The big difference is that green tea is brewed from the leaf of the camellia sinensis plant while matcha powder is the whole leaf dried and ground into a fine powder, but which is actually better for you? Which contains the healthiest plant nutrients? Read on and see our findings.
Are you struggling to understand if Matcha is actually better than organic green tea?
We have long been aware that many green tea drinkers are led to believe that Matcha green tea is more potent in many factors that are thought to bring health and wellness benefits than green tea.
While there is a good case for this when comparing to standard green teas on sale today, it does not stack up when comparing to IE Green Tea Packets, to understand this we wanted to compare a popular Matcha green tea, so we visited matchasource.com.

The statements made by Matcha Source could be said about any green teas, but generally in lesser quantities, which is where our tea excels. IE Green Tea is fresh pre-brewed and concentrated to provide the highest level of natural organic tea nutrition possible.

“One of the major health benefits of matcha tea is that it delivers a mega dose of antioxidants in every sip. According to the latest innovation in antioxidant research, matcha is packed with exponentially more antioxidants than any other ‘superfood’”
This means that IE Green Tea is also an antioxidant powerhouse containing more antioxidants per serving than Match green tea, and the cost per serving of IE is lower too.
Currently the price of organic Matcha tea is $35.00 for a 20 servings jar, compare this with IE Green Tea currently $21.00 for a 24 servings carton. That’s $1.75 per serving for Matcha and $0.80 per serving for IE Green Tea.
Shipping for IE Green Tea is currently free in the US for orders of $10 or more, Matcha Source shipping for The USA starts at $5 making our green tea even better value.

What Are Antioxidants and Where Do They Come From?
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), also known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate, is the ester of epigallocatechin and gallic acid and is a type of catechin, catechins are the molecular basis of antioxidants in green teas.
EGCG is the most abundant catechin in tea. It is a polyphenol under basic research for its potential to affect human health and disease. EGCG is also used in many dietary supplements.
So, you now understand that the main health boosting ingredient of green tea is antioxidant content, we believe that IE Green Tea has the highest antioxidant content of any green tea on the market today, 300mg of antioxidants per serving compared to Matcha at 168mg which means that our green tea has 78% more of those all-important antioxidants than Matcha green tea in each and every serving.
The free radical fighting content of green tea is mainly because of EGCG, a type of polyphenol antioxidant found in a variety of tea leaves.
Polyphenols like EGCG have been shown to have free radical-scavenging abilities and other beneficial effects that help protect cells and tissues throughout the body.
While you can consume this catechin in supplement form, the best way to obtain it is by drinking several cups of high-quality, brewed tea each day.
This habit has been shown in studies to support a healthy metabolism, help regulate blood pressure and protect the brain from age-related damage.
What Is EGCG?
As I mentioned earlier EGCG, which stands for epigallocatechin gallate, is a beneficial plant compound called a polyphenol (which is a catechin, a type of flavonoid). It’s the most abundant catechin found in black and green tea leaves, although tea leaves contain other catechins too, such as epicatechin, gallocatechin and gallate derivatives.
Is green tea extract the same as EGCG?
Green tea extract is made from dried green tea leaves, so it does contain EGCG, along with caffeine and other antioxidants. According to Examine.com, most green tea extract supplements are roughly 50 percent EGCG.
Our Organic Liquid Green Tea Contains More EGCG Antioxidants Than Matcha Powder.
The chart below compares catechins, (Antioxidants) EGCG’s caffeine and the brewing process. From this chart you can see that IE green teas outperform Matcha in all of these important areas.
This is because our green tea is anything but a standard green tea, it is an outstanding premium green tea.
One cup of IE Green Tea = 14 cups of regularly brewed green tea in terms of nutritional content.
Matcha Source state that One cup of matcha = 10 cups of regularly brewed green tea in terms of nutritional content.

Matchasource.com makes comparisons of Matcha Vs green tea, but of course they are comparing to standard green teas such as popular retail brands like Bigalow and Twinings which are in our opinion entry level lower quality green teas.
IE Green Tea comes in pre-brewed instant green tea packets and is certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture or USDA.
Our teas are totally organic and contain the equivalent antioxidants or EGCG’s of 14 cups of those standard green tea bag brands, it truly is the highest antioxidant green tea available today.
The Difference Between Matcha And Green Tea
Matcha Green Tea is prepared from young plants that are at their peak, the leaves once cultivated are then dried and ground into a fine powder, this retains the natural nutrients of the tea plant leaves, but it is worth remembering that all teas are produced from the same Camellia Sinensis plant.
IE Green Tea is produced in a similar way, however our tea is never dried, so it retains more of those all important EGCG’s and antioxidants that help our bodies to fight free radicals.
The tea leaves are roasted fresh also from young camellia sinensis plants at the peak of harvest. As soon as the tea is picked, we roast and brew, to preserve as many antioxidants as possible. We use pure spring water to brew our tea.
Is Matcha The Same as Green Tea?
The process of preparing Matcha differs greatly from the traditional Chinese preparation methods, however while grown in different countries (generally green tea is grown in China while Matcha is Japanese green tea) they both originate from the same family of tea plant, that being camellia sinensis (the plant that all teas come from).
To sum up that question Matcha and Green Tea are from the same plant, matcha uses the whole leaf to produce a fine powder, where green tea is brewed taking the nutrients from the leaf.
When drinking matcha you are drinking the whole tea plant leaf, when drinking green tea, you are drinking a tea that is brewed using the dried leaves of young green tea leaves.
Matcha tea vs green tea.
Both products will give you healthy plant compounds such as vitamins, minerals, EGCG’s, Catechins (antioxidants) and other beneficial compounds, Matcha boasts much more of these than most green teas, and this is correct, unless compared to IE green tea packets.
Either way you choose to drink Matcha or Green Tea you are in fact consuming the same basic product, the difference being that Matcha has to be prepared from ground powder and often leaves a sediment, green tea usually has a faster preparation known as steeping.
IE Green Tea is a unique green tea in that it is absolutely totally organic green tea, it is grown without the use of chemicals, contains no fluoride or GMO’s and is a pure plant based healthy green tea drink that comes pre-brewed in liquid green tea packets.
As you have already read IE green tea is better than Matcha for free radical fighting antioxidants and EGCG’s because each serving contains more of those healthy compounds.
Is Matcha Better Than Green Tea?
Matcha is better than most green teas, however IE Green Tea is no ordinary green tea, our tea has gained huge popularity among people who love green tea.
This is because of the high antioxidant content and the liquid green tea format that is ready to simply mix with hot or cold water to produce a healthy green tea drink, hot, cold, or sparkling tea any time of the day and anywhere at work, home or at the gym.
Finally Caffeinated green tea contains less caffeine than Matcha tea, which has always been high in caffeine content, our caffeinated green tea contains less caffeine than Matcha, and our decaf green teas are lower in caffeine content than most decaffeinated varieties.
Caffeine content is a more difficult metric to measure, the truth is that all green tea contains caffeine, even decaffeinated varieties. They are really reduced caffeine content, and there are many decaffeination processes.
Matchasoure.com states that their caffeinated variety contains 63mg of caffeine per serving (1.8 grams) compared to IE Green Tea caffeinated variety containing 45mg of caffeine per serving, slightly less.
Both the teas are similar in traits, however, when taking a closer look, Matcha tea is usually prepared using a specific technique. Matcha in its powdered form has more caffeine than coffee. It also consists of more concentrated caffeine when compared to other green teas.
The “caffeine high” will last for a longer period of time with Matcha tea and this can cause some serious side effects in the long run; whereas I.E. Green Tea with its brewing process makes it the best-decaffeinated solution allowing green tea drinkers to get their daily dose of antioxidants without the high caffeine content.
